Local tax support has more than tripled

The comparable local tax levy or tax-support line rose from $189.2M in 2020-21 to $625.3M in the 2026-27 advertised budget, a 230.4% increase across the published series.

Document status varies by year: the series combines actual, revised, proposed, and advertised figures from successive official budgets. It tracks the comparable budget line, not final household tax bills.

What changes in 2026-27

The budget grows more slowly than the local tax-support line. These operating-budget changes help explain that gap.

Local tax support$545.2M base levy plus $80.1M bank cap
+$90.8M+17.0%
Budgeted fund balanceOne-time balance used for the operating budget
-$50.6M-34.0%
Operating state revenueState-source revenue in the general fund
-$3.7M-2.8%
Transfer to charter schoolsBudgeted general-fund transfer
+$41.5M+24.6%

A 17.0% increase in budgeted local tax support is not automatically a 17.0% increase on every property tax bill. The final school tax rate also depends on the taxable-property base and each property's assessed value.
